Packing for the Netherlands
Full, part or fragile-only packing — and on a customs movement, the packing and the paperwork are the same job.
On a domestic move, packing is a convenience you can buy or skip. On a move to the Netherlands it is part of the customs process, because the inventory that clears the border is a description of what is inside each box.
What we pack
- Kitchens, glass and china — the slowest and most breakable part of any house
- Pictures, mirrors and framed work, in cases rather than under blankets
- Marble and glass tops, veneer, and anything polished
- Electronics, with their cabling labelled to the room
- Wardrobes into hanging cartons, so clothes arrive on their hangers
Owner-packed cartons
Perfectly normal, and most households do their own books and clothes. Two conditions apply: each carton needs a real content list so the inventory is accurate, and insurance treats owner-packed boxes differently from ones we packed. We will tell you exactly how, in writing, before you book.
What should not travel
Open food and perishables, aerosols and fuels, and most plants — restricted, and rarely worth the paperwork. We flag all of it at survey rather than at the kerb on the morning.

The declaration itself is on the customs page; the move is on household removals.
Packing questions
Why does packing matter more on an international move?
Because the inventory has to describe what is in each carton. A box labelled 'kitchen' is fine domestically and a problem at a customs check.
Can I pack myself?
Yes, and many people pack their own books and clothes. Owner-packed cartons need a proper content list, and cover conditions differ for them — we will explain which.
What gets cases rather than blankets?
Framed work, mirrors, marble and glass tops, veneer, instruments and anything with a value worth declaring.
Do you unpack at the other end?
Where you want it. Most households take delivery room by room and unpack themselves, but a full unpack can be quoted.
What happens to the materials?
They go when we go, or at delivery if we are unpacking. You are not left with a hallway of flattened cardboard.
Want the packing done?
Tell us how much you want to do yourself. Owner-packed cartons need a content list — we will explain exactly what that means.
